Here's another El Pescador vacation shot. He caught this early morning sunrise while treking out over the sand at low tide to a big fish striper location on the Brewster Flats.
I'm headed home later today after a week in Brewster. I put in some time at the mouth of Paine's Creek. I managed to connect with a few fish in the 28" range but there were cow size fish visibly tailing in the shallows every day. My guess is that they were burrowing for big sand eels or 5" lady crabs....which were everywhere.
Thanks for the comment Kris. The Brewster Flats are definitely worth more investigation. It's a special place. I just wish while I was there that I stopped casting for a minute to take some video of the big bass rooting around.
Good point B2. It's best to scout your route at Paines. The tide charges in pretty quickly after low and you could end up swimming back if you aren't paying attention.
Just found this post. I vacation on the Cape every summer and fish the Brewster flats often - beautiful place.
I once got caught on an incoming tide out at that really deep trough out from Paine's Creek and had to swim for it to get back to the main sand bar - no fun.
Now I drag my kayak out with me and paddle back on the incoming tide.
Actually I'm in Seattle but my folks have a place right at C Street Beach, very close to Cobbs Pond. Quivet is great to fish as well. We're usually out in September, the creek gets some big fish on the big plus tides that month. The mouth fishes well just out past the oyster farm.

First time poster - I used to work for the state run camp in Nickerson, Didn't really fish when I was up there, need to make a road trip!

ReplyDeleteActually I haven't fished Quivet Creek. I see Quivet Marsh on the map right near Paines Creek. I assume it feeds out of there?
My in-laws have a place on Cobbs Pond just up the road. We have beach access so I usually just head out to the flats from there.
I'll have to check it out.
