Eastern Rises

EASTERN RISES | TRAILER from felt soul media on Vimeo.

Eastern Rises | teaser from felt soul on Vimeo.

Felt Soul partnered with The Fly Shop to document an epic fly fishing journey to Russia's remote Kamchatka Peninsula. It's called Eastern Rises and you can catch a segment of it on the Drake Fly Fishing Film Tour. Ben Knight and Travis Rummel continue to set the bar for filmmakers working in this genre. Ryan Peterson and Frank Smethurst get a thumbs up from El Pescador for their roles in the film. The rainbow trout, super kundzha char and bears (real and pretend) get a thumbs up too. Check out the two minute trailer and five and a half minute teaser then let me know which way your thumb points.

The Zhupanova is a dream river. One of my top three to get to before I check out. This is a great looking film, as I would expect from this crew. Can't wait to see this full length HD widescreen. Thanks for sharing EP!

I'm not sure when the full length version will be released. Only Travis or Ben can answer that. Stay tuned.

We are hoping to release Eastern Rises by the Fall, or before the Fall. We have a few projects going on that are in front of ER in the edit queue, but it will happen. Thanks for kind feedback and interest.

Still loooking for ER release! Best short of the film tour by far... Will the release be in Blu-Ray? I hope so because DVD is so yesterday.

I'm not aware of the ER release date but I'll check in with the FSM team to see if they have any information.

Is that job post for real? Where can I apply??!! I would really do all that. Any chance you have a Patagonia office?
Looking forward to seeing the rest of this movie.

I believe the position is (or was) real Anon. I'll try touching base with Travis to see if FSM still needs an intern.

I got an email from Travis. He was somewhere in the British Virgin Islands and had just landed his "first decent sized tarpon that evening". I'm sure he was beaming. Here's the scoop on Eastern Rises, Felt Soul Media is working on it and the goal is to have it ready for a Spring premier and DVD launch. Mountainfilm in Telluride 2010. No word right now on the internship inquiry.

Still looking for the release date. What are the chances this will be released in Blu-Ray?

Fingers crossed

My last exchange with FSM earmarked this coming Spring as the target ER completion date Flycaster. I'll certainly update you when I hear anything more specific. As far as Blu-Ray, I'd bet on it.

Yippee! This is a must have my friends

Here's the latest from Travis:

"Eastern Rises is finally done – almost. It has taken us a bit longer than planned, but the final film is our best to date and hopefully will be judged to be worth the wait. ER will premier at the 2010 Telluride Mountainfilm Festival (mountainfilm.org) at the end of May. The DVD will be released soon after the premier. We thank you for your patience and continued interest.

In the meantime we started a mini-site for ER at www.easternrises.com, there’s not much to see there at the moment besides some Russian mosquitos doing pull ups and the ER trailer, but as we get closer to dropping the DVD we will get it fully dialed and worth a visit. Stay tuned."

caught Eastern Rises at the Banff Mountain Film Festival here in Auckland, New Zealand. I dont even fish, and was blown away by this film. Funny, but also quite moving. The same kind of passion they have for fishing amazing places - climbers have for climbing amazing places. Beautiful soundtrack too.

Thanks for sharing Kiwideano. You may want to check out some of the other films by Felt Soul Media as well. They're very good at their craft.
